Espresso Vs Americano/filter We made a 30 ml espresso shot using a Delonghi Magnifica bean to cup machine. In a clear glass, this had all the right appearances of looking like a small Guinness. However, it had a bitter fragrant smell, and a bitter taste. We tried using different grind settings to alter the bitter taste, but to no prevail! We then changed the machine settings to make a 250 ml Americano. This we found to be a more suitable application for this bean. For the Americano, we describe the taste as slightly bitter/tangy with a hint of malt. This bean would also suit a filter machine or cafetiere. To conclude we found this Columbian bean to be of reasonable quality for a long coffee, such as the Americano.
